If you start out with a rusted out shell for $5000 and no drivetrain, you're looking at another $5000 (at a minimum) for GM sheetmetal (quarters are $3,000). A DZ engine will set you back another $5000 and add another $5000 for the rest of the drivetrain and incidentals. You're already at $20,000 and haven't touched the interior, paint, suspension or any of the other labor. JMHO, but this is not a good strategy. Buy the most complete car that you can and you'll be happier in the long run. Running, driving projects can be had for a lot less than $20,000 if you don't need the cowl tag to say X33 or X77.
