Tom, I would have to double check the assembly manual. I remember there were pictures showing it both ways. Mine(70 car) is bolted to the alt. bracket just like you have yours. I don't have the assembly manual handy it is out in the garage. Tomorrow I can double check it. I'll bet Marlin knows for sure... Seems to me your right and I'm sure if I bolted mine to the alt. bracket I must have done so according to the assembly manual becuase I know I had it out when I was putting the alternator and my smog assembly back on the car..
