I had a pleasant surprise on Saturday at the MCACN show. I knew I would be seeing Gordy Carlson again (owner of Beil's Upholstery on Clark St.) who bought my Super Stock Plymouth brand new in June of 1962. But, when I greeted him he asked me if I knew the other fellow with him. I sure did not recognize him (even though I had seen a few photos of him from the '60s). He introduced himself as Jerry Zielinski, the second owner of my Savoy. About bowled me over! I have talked to Jerry numerous times on the phone and exchanged letters too. He has been a great fellow to know and has passed on a lot of great stories about his old race car. Jerry still races and is currently building a new race/street car. It's kind of hard to get that out of your system. Gordy and Jerry have been in the same Car Club (Chicago Gear Heads) for years. It was originally formed by a few cops and has really grown to a large club. We had a great time getting caught up. The two of them reminisced about their exploits with the old Plymouth.
Gordy's on the left and Jerry is on the right. Bottom photo is Jerry with his Dad and "Mr Z" in the mid '60s.
