As there were no real racing tires it was common practice to run the truck six lug rims and tires back then.
Not for the compounds but for the durability. The races in the fifties were won more often by the teams that
could conserve tires, rather then the quickest out there. It took a while for Firestone & Goodyear
to come up with the technology.
