Ohhhhhhh, this is way toooo much fun not to jump in on this one !!
As stated by others many a time before, I always hesitate to put tooooo much credibility in printed reference books. I have dozens of "expert" books with all kinds of typos in them. We have to remember that this info is gathered from all forms of resources, some of which may possibly be wrong to begin with, and then typed and entered and re-entered and re-typed and checked and proof-read and they still manage to get through with various mistakes.
As far as Michael Antonick's "Camaro White Book" goes, the same thing applies. He's an incredibly intelligent and knowledgeable enthusiast, and has been involved in "originality" and "numbers" since before most people ever thought about it, but he's also just a "gatherer and passer" of information, not the one who actually creates the data. As a simple example, here's a quote in reference to 1973 Camaros from one of his White books (this one being a 1993 edition):
"Other 1973 Z28 changes included a Holley carburetor to replace the Rochester Quadrajet, a cast iron intake manifold to replace aluminum, and a lower retail price."
Did you catch that? Now, all my 73 Z's have had a Q-jet, and all my 72 Z's have had Holleys, not the other way around. Just a simple reversal of the carb names, but that's what happens. I told Mike about that typo years ago and he probably corrected it in later editions, but he did say that in publishing not all words are Gospel......
So I put more credence in documents or actual cars, which can be verified or disqualified if need be. And unless I'm about to shell out my hard earned dollars on something, I don't demand "proof" of anything. I just take it all in with a grain of salt and wait until others bash it out in public (much more fun that way)......
