Default PATRIOT DAY 9-11-2007

PATRIOT DAY ON TUESDAY

Flags at half-staff, moment of silence marks 9/11 observance

Today is Patriot Day, when Americans pause to remember the tragic events of September 11, 2001. All government facilities will fly their flags at half-staff.

President George Bush has asked the American people to observe a moment of silence beginning at 8:46 a.m. Eastern Time “to honor the innocent Americans and people from around the world who lost their lives as a result of the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.”

To properly display the flag at “half-staff,” lower the flag to half the distance between the top and bottom of the staff. The flag must first be hoisted to the peak of the staff and then slowly lowered to half-staff.

Before the flag is lowered at the end of the day, it must be raised again to the peak before lowering slowly.

Sincere sympathy to all those who lost loved ones on this day. You are not alone.
