Re: Green Yenko Camaro at Carlisle GM Show
[ QUOTE ]
As a mater of interest, what was the build on Yenko's '69 Olympic gold 'prototype'...and what engine was it originally before transplant?
[/ QUOTE ] The gold car was a regular COPO 9561/9737 with factory installed iron block L72 same as all the rest of Yenko's Camaros in '69...it was just one of the first 50 he ordered which were built on an X66 platform rather than an X44 at the factory. This included the black tail light panel and rockers sills, as well as the chrome rear quarter "gills" like a big block SS would have been built. The gold car is referred to as the "prototype" as it was one of the first received by Yenko and subsequently striped/emblemed...and it was done in an odd configuration with the Yenko crests above the Camaro scripts on the fenders rather than below...and it also had the 427s ahead of the marker light rather than on the cowl hood sides. Yenko seemed to adopt a more consistent style with future cars. The gold car was also featured in the July '69 Super Stock & Drag Illustrated road test, which has etched the car into a lot of minds permanently.
