1. They don't have to justify anything.
2. It won't end. It may slow down occasionally but the trend is upward. (I think gas is still cheaper, adjusted for inflation, than it was in 1981.)
3. The American public can start riding bikes like the Chinese do, otherwise we have to buy gas for our vehicles.
