Charlie, I dissagree. Law enforcement personnell salaries are paid by the taxpayer. They take an oath to protect and serve & with that comes higher ethics & accountability. The tools they use to enforce laws are also taxpayer funded & therefore should not be used for any type of personal gain. Before I purchase a musclecar I usually drive to the local police station to see if the vin has been reported stolen & they'll give me that much, but no more info. Why should a paid public servant be allowed to ID a car that's 3 states away, track it to a Long Island dealership, buy it & flip it for a profit? I'm all about finding cool cars & have discussed this with guys that have NICB access. They respond that they can't take a commission or profit in any way as it could joepardize their job.
