I don't argue gun control on a car forum (that's what ar15.com is for
) but I find it awful hard to believe that any elected American politician at the Federal level doesn't understand why their peers want to see the American populace disarmed. These people have no respect for our money, our freedom or out rights.
Do check out AR15.com if you haven't already. The General Discussion is probably the most interesting site on the Internet for some actual intelligent debate on the whole issue.
