Being the lawyerly type that I am, I have an observation: If they are trying to say that the box was empty when it was accepted for shipment they will lose: DHL and all other shippers charge their shipping based on the weight of the box. Go back and review the shipping invoice. If it says the boxes weighed the same heavy amount when shipped, they cant then turn around and say it was empty when it was shipped.
