Although I specialize in 67 - 68 OEM Muncie shifters, I've seen odd 69 Hurst things. More then likely, it was a supplier issue. Like GM in 69, Hurst relyed on many suppliers to feed their factory. If a supplier shipped a piece that was square rather then round it was sent to the inspectors. If it was in spec as far as tensile strenght, thread size, base metal, etc.. it was OK for production.

If you think the shifter is OEM, I wounld't worry about it.
