Re: '68 Chevelle SS w/ Nickey p-o-p
Here is the scoop. The seller, very honorable and super Nice guy. He only knew that he had a big block Chevelle/former steet racer, which had passed through a few of his buddies hands over the last 20 plus years. He bought if from the previous owner of almost 20 years, after his divorce and has had it for just 5 years.
He is not a collector, numbers or even a computer guy. He didn't even know what the protecto-plate was, or codes on it meant, other than it had the cars VIN on it. He didn't even know what an L78 is!
He needed to raise some cash for a summer home and decided to put the car for sale. This car was only driven a few miles per year and mostly sat for the past two decades.
He hired an ebay company to rep the car and they provide the write up. It was the ebay writer who informed him of the signifiance, of the car having been sold at Nickey Chevrolet.
The Chevelle is a true L78 car, with its original protectoplate. It does not however have the original L78 drivetrain.
The story, as he told it was that the car was a well know street racer from day one and had a different engine configuaration when originally steet raced. He did replace the 4.56 gears it had with 4.11s.
Obviously, I have not had the chance to fully research the car at this point.
Factory Equipment: L78, 4 speed , 4.10 gears, Buckets/no consol, Gauges, Vinyl top, AM radio.
