Re: 1969 RPO DX1 Hood Stripes
Does that book state that the SS car shown came with the DX1 stripe or is it just a picture with no explaination? Just because the picture of a car has the DX1 stripes doesn't mean it's correct. I have seen a lot of cars restored incorrectly and some of these are in books.
All I know is this and this is what I learned, the D90 stripe was the stripe included when someone ordered the SS package. The DX1 stripe was the RPO stripe available for cars other then SS or Z/28. DX1 and D90 were available for COPO.
Now could someone have pulled some strings or got an RPO change for the stripes when the order was placed? Sure, maybe. Could someone have ordered an SS with stripe delete and had the DX1 stripes put on? Sure. Remember you could order an SS with stripe delete. Of course the trim tag would show that.
Stranger things have happened. Of course I would want to see a buildsheet or some sort of legit document showing the DX1 option on an SS car. Anyone??
Here is another way of looking at it. Knowing what we do about the stripes is if an SS was being judged we would expect to see D90 stripes or (- -) on the trim tag and no stripes. Or if it came to be judged and had DX1 we would expect to see documention supporting the stripes.
I have seen more of these cars with DX1 stripes lately and the ones I have seen have been on base cars including rally sports.
Again, stranger things have happened. Like rear spoilers on 67 Camaros or bowties emblems on 67 Camaro outside mirrors or Caution Fan stickers on restored high dollar cars. I have seen all of these in books. Are they correct? NOPE!
