Start wherever you want, as you can do a side at a time...rig a trigger/button up to your starter so you can bump over the engine and watch the rockers at the same time (I put a pigtail in the factory harness on the firewall and simply plug in a generic trigger from Mo's parts store)...you can have someone bump it over with the key, but it's easier if you can watch it and do it yourself...anyway, pull off the valve cover of your choice, pick a cylinder, and bump it over until the intake to closes then set your exhaust lash (.28"), then bump it over until your exhaust starts to open and set your intake lash (.24")...then move to the next cylinder and repeat...it will take you longer to put the valve covers on/off than it will to set your lash, and it will be set right. This will work for a cold setting as well, but will for sure get you running and up to temp...if you have a lifter tapping, simply get the engine warm up and repeat the process, and you're set...sure beats turning the engine over by hand, which on engines with some squeeze will require the plugs to be removed, and then jumping around the cylinders. Believe me, I did it the long way for a long, long time, and it seemed I always had to redo it and it took me forever and a day.
It's usually best to keep it simple...
