Back in the late '60s a local dealer was swapping 427s for 396s when a warranty engine was needed. The story went that GM eventually caught up with them and dumped them as a dealer. I've heard other stories of such trickery as well.

Chevelleless after 46 years......but we did find a low mileage, six speed, silver 2005 Corvette. It will just have to do for now.
