Predicting the future:
I think the hobby is moving more toward restoring cars to the day2 condition. A lot of us are getting tired (and broke) after searching for that last damn date-coded, dog dish hubcap from 1969. There's nothing like having a car look just like you had it in high school: a time machine that takes you back to "funner times". Here's a shot of my charger back from 1987, it had been sitting since 1974 in this condition.

I think you will enjoy your car a lot more if you do it the way you want it and not the way it was originally. I would go with a set of fat Cragers in the back and skinnies up front and use the L88 hood. That would look sweet.
