I certainly do not dispute what you've found, but when one considers the mechanics of that stamping process, it's hard to imagine on a production line. Eight different number or letter stamps picked up one at a time and eight hits with the hammer?? Definitely makes for overkilling a simple job when the gang stamp is so much more efficient
