No, never tried, but i know I have a couple 990A's around here. To be honest, I still think its the tach itself, but i made a bracket that fits behind the plastic dash cluster to keep the weight of the tach from eventually cracking the housing, and it makes changing the tach nearly impossible without removing the entire cluster from the car... which is a bummer, because i now have about a dozen other tachs i could try if i could just easily remove the one that's on there lookin' pretty but not doing anything.
