Re: Tiger Paw Tire
I agree, Rick. And it is no small difference. The 69 Tiger Paw tires were NOT fiberglass belted - nor were any other RWL brands THAT WERE INSTALLED ON 69 Chevelle, Nova, Camaro. The exception, according to CRG, is one (only)ZL1 that received belted tires (Goodyear Polyglas). It is very likely, NO other 69 Camaro, Chevelle or Nova received belted RWL tires. White stripe or red stripe belted, yes. RWL - any brand - NO. Look at your Chev. order sheets.
If you have a build sheet or other factory doc that specifically calls out belted RWL (in one form or another) for a 69 Chevelle, Nova or Camaro, please prove me wrong.
This eBay Tiger Paw appears to be a real, non-belted 69 tire. Of course, this tire has never been reproduced. I think it will take a couple of repro set $$ to buy it.
All those nice COPOs, etc. with RWL Polyglas are incorrect, I believe, until someone can prove their use. Until then, I'm confident the ONLY correct repro RWL tire for these cars is the Goodyear Wide Tread.
A "judge" I talked with at B-J said they accept the Polyglas RWL (without the size in RWL) as correct. Too bad.
Can you tell this bugs me? People see a restored, nice car, assume it is correct, and emulate it. The Polyglas has snowballed. Hail to an NOS Tiger Paw!
