Re: Simply incredible '67 427/435 Corvette..speech
Firstgenaddict,
-------You are correct in some degree, as the chassis was painted white. But the 12 mile car was originally delivered in the northwest and trailered to the young (then) owners home and taken apart, ostensibly to dragrace. There is a guy on the NCRS website on a daily basis (Duke) that lived across the alley from him and he can fill in that part of the story much better than I.
-------However, later on one of the great classic car dealers of all time, and a great guy, "Friendly Bob Adams" out of southern Wisconsin ended up with it and then a good friend and customer of mine from Janesville Wi. purchased it from Bob. I stayed with Bobs son (another great guy) Bob junior in Scottsdale this year while giving my Chevelle away.
-------Eventually Dave Burroughs and one of my old bosses, Jim K bought it and thats when the car was put back in original condition. The engine actually came from the illustrious Pro-Team. It was a complete NOS correctly dated over the counter 351 cast L88. When my friend in Janesville got the car it was missing a large number of original items that had been replaced with over-the-counter, substandard GM stuff. There were several inbetween brokers involved back then and I dont think anyone knows to this day where all the stuff went. Back at this time there were very few reproduction pieces that were done correctly. The name of the game for those with a distinct lack of scruples was to take the mint pieces for thier own. Even stuff like the original gas pedal were gone. Luckily along with all the misfortune many pieces of great importance were left such as almost all the interior. I dont think there is a reproduction piece on the car now as Dave B is detail oriented to the 'nth degree. He wouldnt have allowed anything on the car that wasnt perfect for it, and he did all the resto on the car that was necessary. It all seems confusing but I hope this helps. Im sure a whole lot of cars went thru just as many twists and turns while getting "whole" again!!!!!.........Bill S
