Dave,
If I understand correctly, the Gold (pictured) Monte Carlo is a BB with 4-speed. In looking at the pictures, it appears to be an SS454 based on the fender enblem, dual exhaust and possible horizontal rubber rear bumper strip (can't tell for sure). At any rate, what you are saying is that car has the 4-speed? I would love to hear more about it. It is a well known fact that you could get a 402 4-speed Monte but I have never been able to find a real SS454 4-speed car which is really odd as you would think it would be a natural. Tell us more. (sorry to rob the thread)

Yep, its a 402 4 speed, (or to make it more confusing what chevy called the 400 4 bbl, as opposed to the 400 2 bl which was the small block) No, there are no emblems on the rockers.
it has the rear bumper guards, the horizontal strip you refer to was standard issue on the 71 SS454 Monte only.
To my knowledge a documented 454 4 speed Monte has yet to surface. From my research into the GM resto package and copies of dealer order froms the only possible way to get a 454 4speed was in 1971, and it could only be had by ordering the ls-6 454 (I've never seen/heard of a documented one of those manual or automatic for that matter)
Take a look at the attached shipping doc found under the back seat.
