I believe that the show is scripted also. Boyd couldn't get anything done with a limited time frame if his life depended on it!
My step brother had a Camaro done by Boyd when he had his Hot Rods by Boyd shop in Orange County in the early '80's.
Boyd was just starting to get recognition then...One of his more famous rides he did then was a mini pickup with a shell grafted onto the cab...and you were able to walk through(like the later 4runners from Toyota). This was during the mini truck craze, and the truck graced the cover of Truckin' magazine.
Even back then Boyd was a complete a$$hole, and was never on time with any of his deadlines for my step brothers Camaro...and didn't stick to his budget, either.
BTW, the Camaro was wrecked 2 months after it was completed. The Camaro was rear ended by 3 drunk marines(in a mini pickup).He was stopped at a light and they hit him doing 60+mph!
