Theres no way on earth those two tags are the same one, painted or not. One is definately a repro tag, the other looks real, but the info on both of them is the same, so if you assume the nice crisp clean one is a repro what do you gain other than a nice looking tag? Did the original get lost during the restoration and get a repro replacement, only to find the original one later, who knows, but if your bidding you should definately ask the owner (or the owners rep) what the story is.
All engine VIN's were stamped at the vehicle assembly plant. It is not normal practice during May at the Norwood plant to stamp the VIN on the engine pad of any 8 cylinder engine. It would be stamped on the rear of the engine in the rough casting area above the oil filter. If it's on the pad it's been restamped, although the owner already stated the block was decked and restamped.
