Default Re: General question about Yenko colors

I know of 2 1970 LS6's that were delivered with green bench cloth seat interiors,& painted Code #50 Gobi Beige.
Today they are alive & well,& painted Red w/Black bucket seats.
While reading an old CARS issue, writer Joe Oldham talks about ordering his 1969 Phase III MOTiON Camaro in triple black from Baldwin Chevrolet.
He goes onto to say how the order was returned to Dave Bean in August 1968,because Black paint was not possible on a 1969 Camaro then. They made a few phone calls,& confirmed this from the factory. However, that factory voice did say that if the car were to be used for some special purpose,(such as a magazine road test),then the dealer could place what is called a "deviational order".This type of order must be approved by the local zone office, the regional zone office, the central zone office, and the Detroit headquarters of the company.Joe was informed that the paperwork alone for this special order, would take an extra 6 to 8 weeks. So he waited and went through the corporate red tape, and finally recieved his triple black 1969 Camaro much later on.
Joel Rosen then finished the car just in time for the New York Rod & Custom show to display it there.
Maybe this could have been a possible reason why no 1969 Yenko Camaros were delivered in Black?
