They did it to stop the grey market that was developing due to the weak Canadian dollar - Harley did the same thing. Many US buyers were buying new Corvettes and Harleys in Canada and because of the exchange rate they could sell them at a profit in the US. This upset US dealers who cried foul and GM created this policy to put an end to it. The reverse is true now, I can buy a new Corvette in the US for full list and still save $9,000 CDN over buying here for full list. That's why I'm looking for a lightly used US car
