Re: Yenko Stinger For Sale On eBay
They are very neat cars to mess around with. I once owned #160, which was an all out race car, with 250+ HP. This was the one Mo autocrossed at SCR3. And, he must have enjoyed it, as he ended up buying a pair of Stingers. One was a race car and one was street legal. He sold these to get the Turbo Z., but I think has since regretted parting with them.
Even though most Yenko enthusiasts are not aware of it, to date, there is more paperwork, documentation, photos, etc on the Stinger program then any of the other offerings from Yenko. And, is very interesting reading.
The Stingers really offer a lot of insight into how the big block COPOs came into being, as they were fleet ordered in as COPOs. They were the first COPOs to be sold by Yenko Sportscars, Inc, setting the ground work for their big brothers. Including getting GM to allow the COPO program to be used for h-performance cars and Don setting up the Yenko dealer network. If Ralph Nader had not written his book, "Unsafe at any Speed", which spelled the end of the Stinger program, Don may have stuck with Corvairs and road racing and never bothered with putting 427s in Camaros.
So, next time you see one of these Stingers go zipping by, how about a thumbs up, as that is what started it all.
