You can do a search through the DMV in PA, just download the form from here:

Make sure you check the box stating 'for research purposes only', then send in a personal check for the $5. I have had better luck with personal checks vs. money orders. The ones I send in with money orders have gotten lost several times, if they don't lose it then it comes back quick - but... The only snag is the getting the form notorized, it's tough to convince a notary how important this thing is. It's better if you know someone who is a notary.
