Believe it or not, it's an actual drag strip...although I use that term loosely! It's a small strip about an hour south of here, called
George Ray's Wildcat Dragstrip. As you can see, the r/r ties don't start until about the 330' mark, and they end at the finish line. After that, it's wide open. And cars HAVE gotten away from people there. The scary part is it was 1/4 mile for a LONG time, but they kept having people run off into the field on the end...so now they only run an 1/8.
No VHT, no track prep, and it's gravel right up until the burnout box! Don't stand behind a car during a burnout, or else you WILL get a rock to the skull!
HP Tv did a special on this track last year, as it's the oldest individually owned track in the U.S...been there since the '50s or so. What's scary is that they get some DARN QUICK and very nice cars there...how, I don't know, but it's quite the show.
