Here are a few notes I have from the parts books. It really only applies to the Nova.

The Dual Snorkel Air Cleaner part number 6485257 was added to the L78 (Sp. H/Per.) in the 1970 Nova AIM on 12/12/69. I believe it replaced 6485239 which is also listed in the 1970 Nova AIM as the L34 (i.e. 396 H./Per. or 396 exc. Sp. H/Per.) Air cleaner.

6485239 is the 1970 396 Air Cleaner listed in the 1970 only Parts and Accessories book effective September 1, 1969. No mention of 6485257, Sp/ H./Per or H./Per. 396 applications.

6485239 is listed in the 1962-1970 Parts and Accessories book effective October 1, 1969 as the L34 (i.e. 396 exc. Sp. H/Per.) only Air Cleaner. It is also listed as the Chevelle 396 exc. Sp. H/Per., Chevelle 454 H/Per., and the Camaro 396 Air Cleaner.

6485257 is listed in the 1962-1970 Parts and Accessories book the L78 (i.e. 396 Sp. H/Per.) Air Cleaner.

So Ö The AIM shows the change in December 1969 and the 1962-1970 Parts and Accessories book in October 1969. Now of 200 or so Novaís I have seen in the last year or so in the internet, on ebay or in person, none have the Duel Snorkel Air Cleaner. It must be rare or very unpopular and swapped out.

I do know that the September 1969 Rear Sway bar change in the AIM did not hit production until about May 1970. So it is possible that the December change did not hit production until late in the model year. I have not started a Nova Times back issue search for the Duel Snorkel Air Cleaner , But it is on the research list. Until then or some good examples with trim tag dates, nothing more will be known.
