Default Re: 450 hp L72 rating

From dyno specs etc that I have seen over the years, I would think that the 396 at 375 hp, the 427 at 425 and the 454 at 450, are probably right in the ball park for stock engines. I think Peter Simpson's motor was somewhere around 430 hp and an LS 6 was somewere around 460. We have had a couple of stock L78 Chevelles, with headers, over the years and they are definitely down on horsepower and torque compared to the L72 motor. Until 1966, most companies were putting some pretty bogus numbers on the breathers. Once everyone started racing, reality set in.

Chevelleless after 46 years......but we did find a low mileage, six speed, silver 2005 Corvette. It will just have to do for now.
