Re: "AC" fuel pump
A-1 Remanufactured Automotive Products by Cardone is a large re-builder of some of the pumps you usually see on Ebay. They are into rebuilding in large quantities for profit, as most businesses are. What they do is take in cores, disassemble them, and rebuild them. Sounds simple except for the originality and numbers matching aspect. The cores are rebuilt to function not be numbers matching. Most of the aluminum is coarser and darker than the way they looked as new. This is probably do to the cleaning process. The color of the new steel is bright cad instead of the yellow as when new. The castings may or may not have the AC logo depending on if the core was originally AC or not. Finally the part number stamped on the mounting flange is ignored during rebuild. I am sure their mission is bulk rebuilds at a low price.
I have a Cardone 40727 pump. It started life as a JF40232 with AC logo. I bought it for research. The price was right but nothing like NOS. Let me know if are interested. I might have a line on a NOS one, but is priced close to $100 and I do not know the date code. You would be better searching around. Last year at Fall Charlotte I saw a few vendors with NOS AC logo pumps. They are still out there on Ebay from time to time.
