Default Re: News from the Auction front.

The Speed Channel announcers don't know their butts from their elbows. There is some great American racing history represented by those cars and they don't have a clue.
That 57 Chevy was a factory hot rod that some people call The Black Widow. Chevy even sold a book (1957) printed by the Chevrolet Central Office that showed you how to build your own Stock Car for racing. I have the book. I have read that Smokey Yunick help write it. They tell you how to order the base car with FI 283.
The Speed Channel announcers should do a little research. Just doing a 2 minute search on the net you can find a lot of info. Found this on the FI 57

Dubbed the black widow, this light weight coupe took Buck Backer to the 1957 NASCAR championship. Just 3 races into the season, NASCAR banned the use of fuel injected, factory backed cars, claiming they had an unfair advantage over the independent racers. Baker switched over to a singe 4 barrel carb on his 283 cu. in. small block. He went on to win 17 races, easily clinching the championship.

I can see why Reggie wasn't happy. That car would have gone higher if people knew the history of it. IMO
