Re: Where are they now? 69 Z JL8 and 71 Z ILL cars
Darren, I remember the fathom green '69 w/JL-8 at the dealer on RT. 31 but it was in South Elgin (maybe what used to be known as Valley View at that point). I remember spotting it out there one Saturday evening in the fall of 1980 or 1981. I was interested in the car as soon as I looked inside the slots of the rear Rallys and saw the discs. I knew JL-8 existed, but never saw one before that. I remember it ZL-2 as well because I looked through the flapper to check if it had the cross-ram setup. It also had console w/gauges. It seems they had it for sale at $8000.I went back a couple of times later to look at it, but decided not to buy it as I was working on my '72 big-block and didn't have any extra, safe storage. A couple of weeks later the car was gone and the business permanently closed.
A couple of years ago when I was selling the '72, I got a call from a guy in the Fort Wayne area interested it. During the conversation he told me had owned a '69 during the 1980s, filling the description of the one from South Elgin but sold it after only a couple of years and lost track of the car.
Did the '71 cruise down and hang out down at Montrose Harbor in the 1978-80 period? I seem to remember a white w/black stripe second gen as a regular there.
