Uhhh...no! Gotta be the stock converter. Early in the car's life we had a converter that was quite a bit looser, and it really liked it. But, with that said, the tighter converter helps negate some of the wheelspin.
I tried bringing it out from an idle and leaving off the converter, just run up to about 1,000rpm. I have felt the last 2 tracks couldn't take much more rpm than that.
As for tires, yeah, they are bias-plys, but they are Polyglass tires. I think part of the problem may be the age of the tires...they are going on 6 years old. I tried hazing them and the full burnout treatment, and couldn't tell a lot of difference in 60' times. But, no better than my short times are, it's really not worth noting which technique is better.
