Sometimes the tech guys get a bug in their craw and stick 'em where they think best - and can't be disuaded.

It can go both ways: Dad showed up with our (legit FX) '63 Catalina early in the season at Ubly Dragway.

He knew the tech guy (Butch Schmidt, who was the Service Manager at Bukoski Pontiac in Ubly). Butch says "B/Stock?"

Dad said - "ah yep - B/Stock". He ran B/Stock all year, too - until he got to Indy.

Farmer Dismuke had a ring with a magnet on it. He put his ring on our front fender and determined it was aluminum.

"B/FX" he said.

Dad replied "I can't run B/FX! This car is the B/Stock record holder!"

Farmer said "I don't care if you are Santy Claus - you are not running that car in B/Stock unless you can show me 49 more just like it!"

I'm sure that conversation (or some variation thereof) played out every weekend across the US.
