That's true.
My dad worked for Chevy Pressed Metal and also GM Advanced Manufacturing Development (he's the GM patent holder for hydroform process; laminated steel, and the adhesive bonding of aluminum space frame construction).
They were testing the draw of a die one time and made a whole batch of quarter scale oil pans.
He said for the longest time whenever somebody would retire they would get a chromed quarter scale oil pan mounted to a nice plaque.
