Got the same answer in the trucking business. "We lose a little on each load, but we make up for it in volume"...
I made good money working local sand and gravel 6-7 months and went OTR for 4-5 months over the winter to keep a little funding coming in. That ended in the spring of '08 with the economy in a tail spin and the price of diesel over $4/gallon. I told the carrier I was done paying him to haul his freight.
