The actual, original ZL-1 Camaro drag test was covered by Ro McGonegal and appeared in the May 1969 Super Stock. The June 1998 feature is mostly a reprint.

The original story contains an error, states that the 'street' ZL-1 in the test [#2] was later raced by Shay Nichols. Ro mentioned that the test took place at KCIR near Harrell's shop on an unusually warm day in January. At that time, the only ZL-1 Camaros in existence were #1 & #2. The ZL-1 that Shay Nichols raced was #5, a Dusk Blue automatic identical to #1 & #2. #5 was built March 4th, 1969, sold to the Nichols May 7, 1969. Vintage photos show the car was raced with a white standard interior.

#1 was restored to '69 Gibb Chev racing specs, #2 was restored to original condition. #5 was a career race car, said to be scrapped many years ago.
