I have a hard time keeping track of my projects too. Middle of the night is the best time to go out in the shop and do what you are thinking about while it's fresh. By morning, I've already forgotten what I was doing.
This is a true story, I ran a repair business from my home garage in the 70's. No internet or "google" to look up help. More than once, I would finally get tired of trying things and would go to bed and wake up at 1-3 am with a new idea and go out in the garage and do that and many times it worked.
