Vince Piggins was working on the Z28 before the introduction of the Camaro in September 1966.
Ford through Shelby had fielded 2 Mustangs as did Mercury with their 2 Cougars in SCCA 1966. Piggins was determiined to show the racing world that the Camaro was superior to both the Mustang and the Cougar.
He cobbled up a car - possibly the one already shown and gave Pete Estes a ride and explained his plans for the 1967 SCCA races. Estes was 100% on board and thus was born the Z28.
