Our good friend Charlie Johnson had a maroon '65.
When he saw our '65 he liked it so much that he duplicated our order and ran it back through, the only change being from an exterior color of black to maroon.
For some undisclosed reason our car was always .2 sec quicker. The cars were supposed to be "identical". They even rebuilt both engines, at the same time, on engine stands right next to each other.
Charlie started to get down about it, thinking he was some kind of slouch. Dad tried to encourage him "Charlie - it's not you" and they even traded cars, with Dad driving Charlie's car and vice versa.
Dad's car was still two tenths quicker, regardless of who drove it.
I am reminded in telling this story that only four people have ever driven my '65 on a public roadway or at the track in the last 57 plus years: Mom, Dad, me, and Charlie.
