The GT Sport was the luxury model, like the Coronet R/T while the Swinger 340 was a smaller version of the Road Runner: Bare Bones muscle car.
I never understood, from a racing car standpoint why Dodge chose to use the GTS and not the Swinger 340 for the 440 Magnum package. The bucket seats and console added weight as opposed to the standard bench seat for the SW 340. They could have used the same column shift package they used in their other auto equipped race cars where Drive is the last detent instead of being first like normal cars: RN12D versus RND21.
