I'm not surprised at the times. Mike, a good friend of mine bought his COPO in 73. 20k original miles. The engine internally is a bone stocker, never bored or rebuilt. Mike bought the car with some day 2 mods and has kept it that way ever since. It does have 2" hooker headers on it and had 5.13 gears in it when Mike bought it (came with the original 4.10's in the trunk) and some slapper bars with cragars. Otherwise it's a very nice original car.
Around 1985 or so Mike decided to take it to the track for the first time. Bolted on 28x9 slicks and opened the headers. It ran 12.20 at 114 mph and was out of gear at the 1,000 ft mark, but he stayed in it. Too much gear for that stock engine combo, but it ran pretty darn good anyway. Boy that thing would scream!!
Sometime in the late 90's he decided to install 4.56's. He still drives the car around today but it leads a more cushy life now. He has no interest in going back to the track anymore. Pretty sure the 4.56's would have worked better at the track in his car but we'll never know.
