The specific to L35 only (396/325) radiator gives hint to the car's origins, but credit Jeff Helms usual logic as to why an oval port, 2 bolt engine would be re-stamped "EG".

Al Colvin's CHEVROLET BY THE NUMBERS incorrectly lists The L34 (396/350 EF engine code) as "EG", which in reality is the code for L78 (396/375). Meaning that whom ever was attempting to upgrade this car to L34 status (appears to have an Edelbrock carb with square bore intake as opposed to Q-Jet) relied on incorrect info, and now it is being passed off as the Holy Grail L78.
