Furious and furious as New York lawmaker wants to crack down on illegal street racing
Quote:
ALBANY — Not so fast! A state senator wants to crack down on illegal street racing by expanding the city’s speed camera program and making it easier to hold reckless drivers accountable.
In response to a surge in complaints about speed demons taking advantage of coronavirus-cleared streets, Sen. Brad Hoylman (D-Manhattan) plans to introduce the Fighting Underground Racing In Our Streets, or FURIOUS, Act on Tuesday.
The bill would allow the city to operate school zone speed cameras on nights and weekend and change New York’s lax laws on street racing.
Hoylman told the Daily News the bill is intended to “crack down on dangerous speed racing as well as give these drivers notice that what they’re doing could result in fines and the loss of their license.”
