It seemed like a good idea at the time
By 1970 the muscle car era was at it's zenith. Unfortunately at the same time, insurance premiums had risen to the point of making many muscle cars out of the reach of the buying public.
The Rallye 350 was Oldsmobile's attempt to make a car that would not be penalized by the insurance companies and at the same time offer all the gingerbread of current muscle cars.
The car's outlandish color scheme along with it's stout price left many on dealer's lots unsold.
Some dealers, in an attempt to jazz up the car added trim rings
While a few went as far as removing the body colored bumpers and replacing them with chrome units - just to try to get the cars off their lots.
In the end, Oldsmobile built 3,547 copies of the Rallye 350. Some remained on dealer's lots for almost a year.
