The total sales of Muscle Cars for 1965 reached over 100,000:
L79 Chevelle: 6021
Z16 Chevelle: 201
327 Chevy II: 643
4-4-2: 2999
K Code Mustang: 1051
Skylark GS: 15,780
GTO: 75,352
TOTAL: 102,047
That was pretty much it for 1965. Chrysler had no entries nor did Mercury or AMC. In an industry that counted sales in the millions, why were these new fangled Muscle Cars so important to Detroit? The answer is very simple: A new market with young new buyers. Industry marketing found that most buyers were brand loyal. THE hardest thing to accomplish in sales is getting new clients.
