Did you know . . .
The 1969 Charger Daytona was faster than the 1970 Superbird by 3 MPH. That doesn't sound like much but in 1970 it was enough to have you qualify 6th instead of 1st. The reason - Plymouth wanted the Superbird to be more pleasing in design (they were going to have to sell 1900 of them) so they changed the nosecone a bit and angled the wing back a bit. Both changes decreased the top speed of the car. The Superbird won a lot of races in 1970. The stylists at Plymouth, however, were not doing them any favors when they slowed the car down to make it look "better."
