The part about the vehicle paint is pretty funny -

We've had two GTOs with paint that bad, both out of the Pontiac Michigan plant.

Our '64 was an embarrassment, with the paint coming off in flakes. Dad wanted the factory to repaint the whole car but our salesman Dick Jesse didn't think he could swing it.

They made a call to the factory rep, who also suggested Dad stick a piece of masking tape on any of the places he wanted repaired. Dad wrapped the whole car in tape, probably two rolls of it. The ended up repainting the whole car.

Our '65 has spots in the hood where you can see handprints; the trunk lid has an area where it looks like solvent was swiped off and the paint sprayed over it (a retired Pontiac paint shop manager has since told me that is from pressing down too hard with the tack rag, imbedding the solvent in the primer). It also has the requisite hairs in the paint and poor panel fitment.

All of those defects are still visible, just as when new.
